About Us
John Elmore established his grayling camp in 1974; it is located 75 miles northeast of Nome, Alaska on the beautiful Niukluk River. It is a classic fly fishing river; crystal clear, it has a firm gravel bottom with many pools, riffles and eddies. There are very few places where the water is over waist deep, and there are no rapids. This remote river flows into the Fish River about 10 miles above the village of White Mountain. We use a jet-powered river boat to travel on the Niukluk.
You can enjoy long stretches of the river by yourself, or with the other members of your party. The area is timbered with spruce, birch and cottonwood, and supports a variety of large and small wildlife.
Your host, John Elmore, personally conducts all trips. Fly fishing for a trophy grayling was featured on Larry Csonka's "North to Alaska" program on ESPN in early 2000. Larry did a second program on grayling fishing with John in August 2005; Alaska Magazine featured fly fishing for trophy grayling with John in their October, 2003 issue.
The Niukluk River is a world-class Grayling river.
